Im Rahmen organisierter Sozialisation und im Spannungsfeld zwischen Hilfe und Kontrolle reproduzieren die Professionellen der Sozialen Arbeit soziale Normen. Diese ethnografische Studie zeichnet gelingende konstitutive Bedingungen in Interaktionen nach. Gerade die Offene Kinder- und Jugendarbeit mit ihrem Alltagsbezug und ihrer Offenheit erweist sich als erkenntnisreich hinsichtlich der Erlangung von Sanktionsmacht, sozialer Kontrolle, der Durchsetzung sozialer Normen und der Initiierung von Selbstregulierungsprozessen bei Kindern und Jugendlichen. Der Autor zeigt, dass keine soziale Normen zwischen Professionellen und Adressatinnen und Adressaten ausgehandelt werden, sondern lediglich Situationen, in denen sie zur Anwendung kommen. Zudem vertreten Kinder und Jugendliche Normalitätsvorstellungen, die von den Professionellen wiederum nicht beachtet werden. Ein sozialpädagogischer Diskurs zu und über soziale Normen und den dahinter liegenden Normalitätsvorstellungen – so wird eindringlich gezeigt – ist für eine fortschreitende Professionalisierung unerlässlich bzw. längst überfällig.
